On Having a Public RSS Feed
I WANNA READ WHAT YOU READ... AND I WANT YOU TO SHOW ME!
Here's a confession. I don't like using RSS feeds. Sometimes I just want to load up a static webpage, not have to sign into anything, and just scroll. That's why I quit twitter a while back (among other reasons), you have to always be logged in, and I just wasn't having it. Can't you just pull up a up a site and view all of the latest things you subscribe to in chronological without logging in? Well, you can now! And it's all thanks to internet strangers. Kind internet strangers seem to be hellbent on making our lives better lately. Herman gave us one of the best minimalist platforms, with optional Like buttons! (this can be hidden with css if you're shy) You don't even have to log in to like posts thanks to some more CSS magic!
Well, other cool strangers, Jes and Meadow, have given us vore.website and mire.meadow.cafe. I can plug in vore.website/differentsteve or mire.meadow.cafe/u/steve into any browser and see all of my subscriptions - all without logging in! And so can my friends :) I can see my friends public subs too, if they choose to make a Vore or a Mire page... Ok, so, so far I haven't convinced any of my friends or family members yet.. but I'm hoping more people in the small web will participate. I'd love to just look at all of the subs of fellow bloggers. My sub links now reside on the Cool Blogs tab, ready for other people to discover what I discover.
It's a great way to keep up with non-Bear blog bloggers, too!
Thank you again jes and Meadow! You are both amazing humans for hosting these projects and making them available for other internet hipsters. This post was also inspired by ReedyBear. They reminded me how important RSS is as a form of decentralized, ethical consumption. Please consider having a public Mire or Vore link, or something like it, on your site! I wanna snoop around peoples' RSS feeds and find cool stuff!
(this was my clickbait video attempt at trying to get people using public RSS feeds lol)
