Some of my favorite memories are just me and a few friends looking up flash games or whatever and taking turns with the mouse. Flash games were free. And so were emulators with full romsets (courtesy of a cool uncle). This was before YouTube was a thing. A quirky kid awkwardly swinging a lightsaber around was considered knee slapping, earth shattering entertainment. Expectations were low, and our excitement was high. I'm going once again try to recreate that feeling with my friend, Dan, this weekend. Neither of us knew each other back then but, considering how similar the two of us are, we may as well have.
The twist is that I promised to show him more Office suite stuff in between hanging out. He's gotta git gud if he's gotta pass this new job assessment thing in a couple weeks. Not that I mind it. Teaching Excel and Word is actually pretty fun IMO. Dan agrees, oddly enough. I think he may be close to catching the same Excel bug that so many of us have come down with over the years. Like, he's doing his first nested If statements, his first Index Matches, his first text to columns, ect. He's stsrted to refer to text as strings! Getting adults excited about learning is seriously underrated. A lot of young and dumb types seem to think that the oldheads can't learn new stuff. Well, they're fuckin' wrong. Idk, I want to teach people skills through wacky edutainment videos. That's what I want to devote my life to (but can't due to circumstances).
It's a Dan and Steve manchild sleepover weekend. He's driving from the other side of the state so play on the computer together irl. Shit, that's exactly what we used to call this activity: playing on the computer. We're gonna play on the computer!!! :D
